A series with a wonderful warm atmosphere, against which various scientific hypotheses are artistically played out. Yes, of course, the screenwriters disregarded many scientific fields: archaeology, anthropology, linguistics, biology — indeed, strictly speaking, almost all scientific fields mentioned in the series — but at the same time, undoubtedly inspired a huge number of young (growing up) scientists and others to understand how the Universe functions deeper. Also, one should not forget that the first part of the series “SG-1” was filmed back in ’97, and the idea and universe itself appeared with the start of filming the feature film back in 1993, while the script was written even earlier.
At the same time, the series is wonderful in its dreamy naivety, which allows children and teenagers to easily perceive the plot, and moreover, instills a love for exploration, romanticizing them, which is undoubtedly a positive effect. At the same time, one cannot fail to note the obvious progress over time in attention to scientific authenticity: if you take the fairly modern, recent sequel “Stargate: Universe”, the scientific level there is high, and my knowledge is not always enough to understand how truly scientific it is. At the same time, of course, the same level of fantastic nature remains; despite the atmosphere becoming darker, the feeling of something warm and tube-like did not disappear, but decreased a bit.
Also, it is a wonderful thing that an aging nerd can show to his children and spend time together in a warm family atmosphere. Since this is a very kind and bright thing, a parent using the example of noble deeds of heroes will be able to explain many moral dilemmas and illustrate many life situations hyperbolized by romantic and fantastic entourage. The project’s runtime will allow not just spending a couple of evenings together, but creating a long tradition of joint viewing that will create a common egrigor of values between two generations and spheres of interest.
Personally, in my taste, the best balance is in Stargate Atlantis; it is brighter than SG-1 and not as dark as SG Universe, while also having more humor, and Colonel O’Neill’s role was wonderfully filled and even improved in its qualities.
